Intermediary plan standoff in Kansas City teachers strike

Both sides study a court appointed intermediary Sal Capra plan to end the 31 day walkout. The plan would return 2000 striking teachers to classrooms and restore jobs for about 390 teachers minus those who committed violent acts, while reimplementing union privileges. Capra has not heard from either side. Union leader Norman B. Hudson demands no reprisals before ending the strike. District officials review each striking teacher after the walkout, with 92 schools in district and most students back in class. Five strikers remain jailed for defying a court order.
