Interracial school desegregation suit may span years
A federal suit to desegregate Kansas City area schools could target 17 suburban districts in Missouri and Kansas. The plan, potentially the first cross state desegregation move, names Missouri Kansas and the federal government as defendants. Court action may take up to five years to resolve.

Fire forces Sophia Loren to flee apartment roof in nightgown
Paris AP reports fire at the 10 story building where Sophia Loren lives drove the actress and her two children to the roof in smoke. Loren said she spent about two hours on the roof in a nightgown and barefoot before firefighters rescued them. Her husband Carlo Ponti was away in Switzerland. The seventh floor blaze was extinguished after several hours. Loren and family were not seriously harmed.

University Singers tour Missouri with MU performers
