Heidemann Back To Haunt Cards In Mets Rally

ST LOUIS AP Heidemann praised his return as he helped the New York Mets beat the St. Louis Cardinals 14 7 in a spring exhibition. The former Cardinal, traded in the off season, drove in four runs with a bases loaded walk and a decisive sixth inning double as Koosman and Parker struggled early. The game featured three Cardinal errors by Ted Sizemore tying a long major league mark at second base.

Marichal ends comeback with Dodgers after poor return

Juan Marichal, famed righthander, quits baseball at 36 after brief Dodgers stint. He told Los Angeles Manager Walt Alston he could not pitch effectively and is stepping away, closing a 15-year career that included a 243-142 record and a 2.87 ERA. Alston praised Marichal while noting the difficulties of aging and form.
