Ford recalls 72 Torinos and Montegos for rear axle fix
Ford Motor Co recalls 396000 1972 Torinos and Montegos to modify rear axle assemblies after reports of deteriorating bearings and possible axle detachment. About 323000 Torinos and nearly 73000 Montegos affected. Ford cites five confirmed wheel loss cases and no confirmed injuries except one whiplash claim.

Kansas City AP report: Jack O Hazelrig, assistant English professor at Central Missouri State College Warrensburg, sues CMSC board of regents president Warren Lovinger and four faculty members in U S District Court claiming termination violated his rights. He says he received a terminal contract for 1971-72, was not given an explanation, hindering other employment. He seeks $90,000 in damages and rehire for 1972-73.

Hijacker captured at Chicago after Miami flight
A hijacker demanded 500000 dollars and a flight to Nassau, forced a Convair 480 to land at O Hare, and was captured without incident. FBI identifies the suspect as William H Greene ITI 80 of Berea Ohio. The plane carried 91 passengers and no gun was found.
