Sinkhole Swallows His Garden in Balm Florida
In Balm near Tampa, 77 year old Preston Keen loses a six week old vegetable patch and seven orange trees to a spreading sinkhole. The 125 foot wide, 50 foot deep hole lies about a quarter mile from the Keen home, with green water at the bottom and an underground stream forming a small waterfall. Crack lines extend up to 12 feet as the sink grows, a common risk in central Florida limestone areas.
