IRA Blamed For Attack On Pregnant Belfast Wife
In Belfast a pregnant housewife, Philomena McGuckin, five months along, was attacked by a six youths and two women team described as an IRA punishment squad. She was beaten with hockey sticks, shaved, painted with red paint and feathers, then tied to a lamppost while her children, ages five, three, and eight months, cried. Police said she is recovering from shock and bruises, with doctors unsure if the baby will survive. Neighbors and local reports link the assault to IRA punishment actions in the Catholic district.
