Funeral Held for Mrs. Myrtle Bell Whittaker

The funeral for Myrtle Bell Whittaker born June 26 1906 and died September 26 1925 was held Sunday afternoon at 3 PM at the Methodist church with Rev. FH Nanca officiating. Interment followed at City Cemetery with John R Corley Co in charge of arrangements. She was the wife of H Wittaker employed by Pure Oil Co and resided on Groesbeck road.

Mexia Man Indicted on Serious Offense Involving Daughter

Ed Nicholson, once paroled, is indicted by the 7th district grand jury on a criminal offense against his 12 year old daughter now in Salvation Army care. He was arrested after the girl fled the Mexia home and was later jailed without bond awaiting trial.

Waymond Bags, colored, indicted by a grand jury for murder in connection with a shooting at an all night party near the Navarro Limestone county line. John W. Rader Dies at Thornton

John W. Rader, 63, longtime resident of this district, died early today in Thornton. Funeral services were conducted at the Methodist church at 3 p.m. with burial in Cobb Cemetery. A large attendance of friends and relatives from across the country noted the service.

Waco Federal Court to Try Damage Suit

The United States District Court in Waco will hear the damage suit Louis Henry et al versus Pure Oil Company. Damages sought amount to 500000 for alleged failure to develop oil lands leased from the plaintiffs. The case was transferred from Limastone County Seventy-Seventh District Court.

Sunday Games in Mexia Condemned by Local Pastor

The Rev J W McKinney of First Christian Church denounced Sunday amusements including baseball as desecration of the Lord's Day. He criticized Texas blue laws for lax enforcement, urged stronger Sunday restrictions, and praised the eighteenth amendment as a step forward. He noted low Sunday School attendance and called for tighter observance.

Mystery of Hammer Murder Victim Deepens in Her Death

San Antonio reports Ada M. McComb, victim of a hammer murder, left behind jewelry in her room. No claimants appear for the body yet. Lucille M. Germaine of Laurelton, N. Y., a niece of the dead woman, wired the district attorney. She claims the other woman confessed to beating Miss McComb to death and remains in jail.

Grand Jury Returns 83 Indictments Against County Officials

The grand jury under Judge A M Blackman returned 83 indictments in three weeks. Included are theft and drunken driving cases and a surprise indictment of a county commissioner. Sheriff Popejoy plans to arrest John Kennedy on bond of 500 once Kennedy returns from Amarillo. Kennedy, at Texas county officials convention, seeks legal counsel L W Shepherd.
