Rodgers and crew rescued after submarine find

Commander John Rodgers and four crew members of the PN-91 seaplane were rescued by the submarine K-4 and brought to Pearl Harbor. Rodgers was named assistant chief of the Navy Bureau of Aeronautics for courage shown. The crew, exhausted but alive, were hospitalized in Honolulu after the dramatic 10 day disappearance.

Rescue Succeeds After Nine Days Lost at Sea

Commander John Rodgers and four crew members of PB-1 survive nine days adrift in the Pacific. They refuelled by rainwater and distilling sea water aboard a fabric reservoir, refused to abandon their plane, and were found in good condition after a difficult search.

Kenneth Baldwin aged 17 killed his father Walter Baldwin when pressured to work in the field after he claimed illness. He then shot himself, ending the incident in Harrisburg Illinois as reported by International News Service.

Col Mitchell Pleased Over News of Crew Safety

Col William Mitchell expressed happiness at reports that the seaplane crew was found safe. He previously charged army and Navy officials with incompetence and commented on Rodgers' promotion, saying the navy cannot afford to lose such men.

Navy salutes survival of PN-91 crew after long search

Secretary Wilbur reported PN-91 and its crew found alive near Nawiliwili, 15 miles from the harbor. Commander Rodgers and five crew members were in good health and en route to Nawiliwili, ending a ten day, high tension search. The discovery relieved Navy officials who knew the crew personally and lifted a cloud over the service.

Berthelson Under Bond On Two Cases

Berthal A Berthelson son of a Mexia family faces two charges in county court wife desertion and aggravated assault. A neighbor filed the assault charge and Mrs Berthelson signed the desertion complaint. Berthelson was placed under 500 bond in each case with trial set for the third Monday in October.
