Senators Push Probe Into Payments To Bay of Pigs Widows
Two Republican senators call for a Senate inquiry into $225 biweekly payments to four women whose husbands were believed killed in the 1961 Bay of Pigs invasion. Barbara Axe gave birth to four daughters at St. Rita's Hospital Lima, weighing 2 pounds 9 ounces to 4 pounds 2 ounces. Tragic Truce? 3 Year Old Kills Mother With Shotgun
In Beaumont a mother died after her 3 year old son fired a 12 gauge shotgun placed in her mouth. The child reportedly was paid one dollar to pull the trigger as the mother handled the gun. Police described the scene as a game mistaken by the boy, who was nearly four in May. The parents were divorced.

Man Shot During Extortion Plot in Alpine
ALPINE Tex AP 26 year old Ls Proffitt died from a gunshot wound Monday night in what officers called the climax of an extortion scheme against a local girl. Proffitt allegedly pressed the girl for money by threatening nude photos and staged a payoff in an alley, where he fled and was shot by Sheriff Jim Skinner after failing to stop as ordered.
