Revival speaker Jack Paul will address the Mexia Lions Club Tuesday at the Ross Avenue Church of Christ. Hall Thacker will introduce him at the luncheon. Lions members urged to attend and hear Paul’s message.

Brookshire Grocery Company opens its 50th food store Tuesday at 9 in Mexia at 1001 East Milam. The 20 000 square foot brick facility offers S&H Green Stamps, eight checkout stands, bright decor and over 200 parking spaces. Brookshire's dates back to 1928 in Tyler and now operates 50 stores in East Texas Louisiana and Arkansas.
A Monday night divorce recovery seminar at the Southwestern Electric Service Company community room in Mexia starts at 7 with the topic Divorced and Different. Susan Reese of Providence Hospital in Waco leads, there is a $2 charge per session, free nursery at First United Methodist Church on Kaufman Street, and two final sessions on July 12 and July 1 titled Messing With Money and Putting It All Together.
Mexia police investigated two weekend accidents. On Friday a 1964 Ford driven by Lavonne Hardeman left the road and hit a fence at Thomas and Palestine with no injuries reported. On Saturday a 1974 Chevrolet pickup towing a 1969 Sherwood mobile home struck a parked 1976 Chevrolet Monte Carlo owned by Janet Reed, with minor damage to the pickup and mobile home and no injuries.
The Associated Press reports 17 deaths in Texas over a weekend from 6 p.m. Friday to midnight Sunday. Nine were traffic related, three drowned, three were shot, and one died in a stabbing.
Washington reports a monthly foreign trade surplus driven by record exports and a sharp drop in oil imports though the change appears temporary. The same bulletin notes possible 25 cent local calls from phone booths, plans for an elite Army helicopter unit to drill in Western Europe this September, and a weapons bill allowing B bomber production after Senate House conference approval.
