They were running from an enemy plane when they tripped near detonator caps and exploded machine gun fire. A Barstow physician said both could resume work today.
Brattleboro high school star Paul Beebe, state champion pitcher, was signed Tuesday by the Washington Senators and will report to the team. Jacksonville? The article notes Beebe joins the Major League organization.
Sheriff J R Gilroy denied violent accounts of Freedom Riders at the Mississippi State Penitentiary saying riders are being treated well and a Jackson judge sentenced 23 more riders, bringing the total found guilty to 163. A New York columnist questioned the riders claims while federal action over dining facilities at airports was filed. A planning meeting by the Freedom Ride Coordinating Committee was announced for Jackson.
