Mississippi River flood levels rise toward an all time high in St Louis with 41.2 feet forecast, 4000 homeless and army troops deployed. Des Moines and Ottumwa face Des Moines River threats as floods expand across Iowa. levees reinforced. floodwaters inundate 13000 acres near Chester.
In Paris the three power ministers from Russia Britain and France met at the Quai dOrsay to discuss European reconstruction. A news blackout was ordered with no press details and a planned 7 p m press conference canceled. Ernest Bevin joined Molotov and Bidault in the parrot room as they pursued Marshall Plan talks.
Austin report notes the final two acts of the 50th Texas Legislature were signed into law while five others were vetoed by Governor Beauford H. Jester just before the deadline. Of 1335 bills, 483 were finally passed and 12 vetoed in total. The governor rejected a ban on high school fraternities and sororities.

The Senate passed a measure to place the House speaker next in line for the presidency if both the president and vice president are unavailable. The vote was 50 to 35, with Joseph W. Martin Jr. as current speaker and George C. Marshall previously in line. An amendment to move the Senate president pro tempore was defeated 55 to 31.

Tokyo dispatch reports Gen Douglas MacArthur urging the earliest possible signing of the Japanese peace treaty. Seventeen American newspaper executives on a world flight back Haneda to Guam echoed his view. MacArthur said no reason the treaty could not be signed within a year and warned that delay costs the U S government about a million dollars daily. He expects no Russian trouble as geographical issues are settled.
Dallas June 27 Up Homer W Snowden and associates of Dallas bought 32 oil and gas wells from H H Howell of Alice in a 2 000 000 mineral transfer. The holdings include 29 oil producers with an estimated 2300 barrels daily and cover about 2500 acres across Duval Jim Wells and San Patricio counties in south Texas.
Senate leaders say a debate on nominating Joe B. Dooley to be a Federal district judge for North Texas is likely July 1. They expect major legislation, including the succession bill and the second war powers measure, to delay action today.
Ford Motor Company and the CIO United Auto Workers Union reached a two year agreement for 120000 employees. Production workers get seven cents an hour backdated to May 31 plus eight cents to a pension fund. The plan is described as a landmark social security move by a major company and ends the threat of a general strike.

Gerhart Eisler, accused top Soviet agent in the United States, received a one year prison term and a $1000 fine for contempt of Congress. He proclaimed his contempt for the House Un-American Activities Committee while declaring innocence of contempt charges. Federal Judge Alexander Holzkopf continued his $20,000 bond pending appeal.
United Mine Workers call for courage and action against the Taft Hartley Act as about 250000 members engage in wildcat walkouts following the law's enactment. The UMW Journal lists lawmakers who voted to override Truman and questions the act’s anti strike injunctions for coal.
