Mission Farmer Captures First Bale in Cotton Contest
Ray Barnick a 52 year old Mission cotton planter won the Harlingen Chamber of Commerce first bale prize. His 457 pound bale earned 2500 total with 1500 bonus and 1000 auction guarantee though only the bonus and guarantee paid in past years. Barnick has won in 1952 1954 1963 and again this year with 115 of his harvest used to assemble the winning bale picked from about 70 acres in the lower Rio Grande Valley. Pedro Herrera also entered but his bale weighed 412 pounds and was disqualified for being under the minimum.

Rites In Jewett For Jennie Reed
Funeral services were held Saturday at the First Methodist Church in Jewett for Mrs. Jennie Reed who died in San Antonio at her daughter Mary R Jordan home. Reed, a native of Auén County, was born in Jewett on May 15 1874. Her husband died six years ago.
