Mississippi braces for first wave of civil rights volunteers
In Jackson Mississippi the state prepared for a summer corps of about 1000 college volunteers to work among Negroes. The group trained at Western College for Women in Ohio will arrive this weekend and staff workshops for voting rights aid and self help programs. The effort is led by the Council of Federated Organizations and the National Council of Churches race and religion commission.

Wortham The Lockett Circle met at Mrs. Louise Strunk home on Monday night June 15 with Flora Applewhite as chairwoman and Ruby Celled leading opening prayer. Agnes Brown led a Bible study on prayer and the gathering ended with prayer by Louise Strunk. Refreshments of punch and cookies were served. Local visitors included Venoy Michael Terri of Dallas and A. R. Johnson Littlefield with Gaylon Johnson and baby of Dallas. Mrs. Ruby Calame visited her mother in Mexia and Oscar Patterson hosted an open house with pink decor and lace cloth. About 50 guests attended with punch served by Jerry Dobbins.
