Frontier Lumbermen's Coup in Machias Bay Naval Battle
Two hundred years ago frontier lumbermen seized the British warship Margaretta at Machias Bay in the first naval battle of the American Revolution. Patriots boarded with pitchforks and clubs, killing Lt Moore and wounding four others. the Margaretta fell to the Unity renamed Machias Liberty, with later capture of the Diligent. Bicentennial events include memorials for Jeremiah O'Brien and a fish chowder dinner.

Winter Wheat Crop Seen Near Record But Slightly Softer
