The Gibbs Memorial Library reported April total circulation 2 574 with 1 789 adults and 785 juvenile books. Nonfiction and fiction split 732 1 057 for adults and 316 469 for juveniles. May circulation 2 335 with 1 855 adults 940 juvenile. fiction 2 to 1 with 433 non fiction and 661 fiction.
Fathers or their families have two more days to register for prizes from 47 participating merchants in the Make Dad King for a Day trades event. At least four fathers will win about 282 dollars in value. A public drawing Saturday at 5 pm in front of the radio station will announce the winners. You need not be present to win and registration requires no purchase.

J T Sanders 35 of 304 East Wilson Mexia died Wednesday at 7 30 pm in Brown s hospital after a heart attack suffered while mowing his lawn His son James Travis found him near a tree around 4 pm and neighbors moved him to the hospital Doctors attributed death to a heart attack He had prior attacks and was a lifelong Limestone County resident employed at the Mexia State School and Home Funeral services are pending with Corley Funeral Home burial in Fort Parker Cemetery Surviving are his wife two daughters his parents and three brothers He was uncle to Lou Sanders injured in a recent wreck on the Groesbeck highway.

Bryant Pearce Seay 64 of Memorial Hospital Houston died Tuesday after an operation. An oil operator and lawyer, he practiced in Mexia and Brownwood before moving to Houston in 1925. Survived by widow, daughter Mrs Thomas Wynne, son Bryant Pearce Seay Jr in Baltimore, a sister and two grandchildren. Services Wednesday at Forest Park cemetery.

Gov Earl Long is back in Louisiana after 18 stormy days in a Texas mental ward. He resumed control from his hospital bed at Ochsner Foundation Hospital, returned by Air National Guard plane from Galveston. Lt. Gov. Lether Frazer had acted as governor and said Long is governor again once he crosses the state line. Frazer noted constitutional questions about declaring incapacity.
City records show a rise in construction and repairs in Mexia for March through May 1950 with $90,000 in activity and 12 building permits issued, compared with a similar period in 1958. Details list dozens of projects, costs, and specific builders including John Dollaway and Avery McKinney.
Mexia banks report June 10 1959 assets totaling 6.28 million dollars up 4 percent from a year earlier. First National Bank shows assets 4.38 million with deposits near 3.89 million and loans about 1.56 million. Farmers State Bank posts assets 1.91 million with deposits 1.70 million while loans total 0.62 million.
A four alarm blaze in Teague on Wednesday night at about 11 p.m. gutted a garage apartment on Cccur Street owned by Johnny Mayo who was away on vacation. The top floor was a total loss. total damages are not yet determined. No adjoining properties were damaged. Mayo works at the Waco Veterans Administration hospital.
Miss Martha Dune West 34 a native of Mexia and longtime Dallas Morning News employee was buried in Dallas Wednesday. She died Sunday in a Dallas hospital after an illness. Survived by her parents Homer P West and Celia West of Dallas, two brothers Bob and Philip West, and grandmother Mrs Agnes West.
