Limestone County Commissioners discussed a Criminal Justice Division Grant and approved construction of a steel building for the Limestone County Young Farmers. The regular meeting on Monday also covered additional agenda items and the board voted unanimously on key motions.
Glen Wren of the Independent Cattlemen's Association urges Freestone County farmers and ranchers to register to vote by Friday for the Beef Referendum. Registration runs at the ASCS office in Fairfield with voting July 5 to 15. The ICA urges participation while county actions include jail facility grant, steel building contract, vehicle bids, and county road designations and retirement plans.
Media police reported a quiet day Tuesday with two automobile accidents. Lillie Dale Thompson of Tehuacana driving a 1972 Chevrolet hit Vida Hogan of Thornton in a 1975 Buick at the Ross and Milam corner, causing moderate damage. A 1972 Pontiac owned by Johnny Wilson of Mexia was struck while parked at 107 Palestine by an unknown driver, with light damage.
The Mexia School Board appointed Horace Sheffield as Mexia High principal and selected Benny Lucas for Mexia Middle and Bo Wilkins for Ross Elementary. A standing room only crowd pressed the board on fall workbooks and kindergarten crowded classrooms plus budget priorities for 1977-78.
Dallas AP State Insurance Board Chairman Joe Christie told the Independent Insurance Agents of Dallas that the legislature killed two snakes in the insurance woodpile. He said one snake was a bill to replace standard automobile rates with flexible rates set by insurers and noted a repeal bill over health insurance policy authority was introduced at a single company's owner’s request.
Dr. Jack B. Lee, a 68 year old San Antonio eye surgeon with nearly four decades of practice, has notified patients he will retire from medicine to enroll as a first year law student at St. Mary’s University Law School. He plans to specialize in medico legal issues and graduate in 1979.
The Outreach Missionary Baptist Church group from Houston will close two days of services at Comanche Crossing with a 7 p.m. Sunday, June 19 film night featuring a Christian film about the Rapture and The Second Coming of Christ. Rev. Bert Lankford invites all to attend.
