Fairfield and Teague Rotary Clubs will hold a joint meeting Tuesday at Mack's Cafe to hear a Rotary exchange student from Argentina. Teague residents begin a townwide clean-up campaign this week led by chairman Forrest Wood, seeking completion soon.
In Tallahassee Florida UPI reports four white youths were convicted for raping a Negro coed. The jury recommended mercy and spared the electric chair. NAACP leaders criticized the mercy move while local residents largely approved the verdict though some favored harsher punishment.
Sen. Henry Gonzalez accused the Senate Finance Committee chair of pressuring state college administrators to back a proposed 30 dollar per semester fee for student services. He argued funding cuts compelled administrators to support the bill, while Sen. William Fly urged boards to have discretion to set such service fees.
Moviet actor James Stewart has been elected an alumni trustee at Princeton University. Stewart, a 1932 Princeton architectural degree holder, was announced as the new trustee today in Princeton New Jersey.

A 20 foot killer shark dragged diver Robert L Pamprin 33 of nearby Pacific Beach under water and killed him Sunday off a crowded La Jolla Cove beach as his wife and best friend looked on. The victim, an aircraft engineer and father of two, was attacked while driving off the shore.

The Supreme Court today denied a hearing for Junior Lee Williams a Black man on death row in Texas for the rape of a 13 year old girl in Bay City. Williams was convicted and faces execution under state law.
Cleveland dispatch reports the Brotherhood of Locomotive Firemen and Enginemen announced a 14 percent raise demand for its 90,000 railroad members. President H. E. Gilbert said engineers in road service would seek a $26 daily guarantee and firemen in road service $23.
A gunman dressed as a woman robbed a Fort Worth Safeway of several thousand dollars today and escaped in a car stolen from a used car lot last night.
Pool manager Jene Holt urges constant alertness for safety during busy summer days. Rules include waiting an hour after lunch before swimming, no running, one person per diving board, non-swimmers in shallow end, no food or candy in pool area, life jackets secured, and lifeguard obeyed.
