Cloud bursts near Hampton, Tennessee caused heavy damage with up to sixteen reported dead. Wires are down and storm details remain uncertain as Johnson City monitors the aftermath.
In Topeka June 14 wheat has rippened rapidly in hot weather. Prospects remain for a good Kansas yield though some fields are poor. Harvest seeks 40,000 extra workers statewide with wages from 3.50 to 4.91 daily, as Oklahoma and Texas harvests begin and workers drift north.
Dr Herbert Bolton returns to California without a definite answer on accepting the University presidency. Reporters were told to go to hell after he sarcastically rebuked a question, noting he had nothing to say.
United Press reports the Independent Order of Foresters opens national headquarters in Chicago to oversee commemorations on June 17 across the United States and Canada. Frank T. Hand, longtime Pacific Coast director, leads the new office.

The Mexia Elks Lodge decorated with the Stars and Stripes for Flag Day observance in Etkddom. A program was held at the Methodist church by the Elks Saturday evening as part of the celebration.
Funeral services for Captain Frank Hughes a Dallas resident and pioneer citizen were held at the Presbyterian church with a large attendance. Rev E B Hudson and Dr W S Reed conducted the rites, followed by a graveside ceremony led by Master Masons and pallbearers from his circle of friends. Hughes longtime public service included terms as assistant sergeant at arms of the Texas Senate and a former cotton yard operator in Mexia. He is survived by his wife and multiple children and grandchildren.
On June 14 crowds in Evanston welcomed Charles Dawes nominated for vice president on the Republican ticket. Despite Dawes request for restraint, organizers planned a parade if the home folks press for celebrations. Dawes may drive home to Evanston and return to his Chicago office to prepare for the campaign.
Dr W S Red of Austin former pastor will conduct funeral for Captain Frank Hughes and remains over tonight. He will preach at First Presbyterian Church this morning and again this evening by special appointment of the pastor.
In Mechanicsburg Pennsylvania on June 1 a second pipe organ built in America in 1807 remains in use at Old Peace Church. Church records claim it has never been repaired since installation. the instrument from Conrad Dell of Lancaster started with 300 pipes and had x stops.
Syracuse, N Y Ray Watson of the Illinois A C Chicago joins Coach Tom Keane at Syracuse University as an Olympic aspirant. Watson is the national half mile champion and one of the most versatile speeders in American track, capable of racing from 880 yards to 5000 meters.

The Mexia Lions hosted visiting Lions from Waco and Teague at the Hurdinston Hotel. Attendees enjoyed a large turnout, Elks Orchestra jazz, and a lively minstrel show by the Waco Lions, with invitations renewed for future neighborly gatherings and the International Convention in Omaha.
Lieutenant Maughan seeks a third attempt to fly across the United States from Mitchell Field to San Francisco within the same day. The 570 mile first leg goes to Dayton with 236 gallons of fuel aboard, stopping briefly at Dayton, St Joseph, Cheyenne, Seldura, and final arrival in San Francisco.
