Private colleges see rising applications despite costs
The National Council of Independent Colleges and Universities reports 55 percent of 607 member schools received more applications for fall, with Cornell University and Smith College among institutions noting significant increases. Average private college costs rise to 4391 dollars, up 16 percent from last year as public vacancies also loom.

Wheat Reserve Buildup Seen By 1976 With Record Soybeans
The Agriculture Department projects a mid 1976 wheat reserve of about 285 million bushels as exports lag. Winter wheat at 1.62 billion and spring wheat around 525 million are forecast, with 1974-75 exports near 1.05 billion and 1975-76 exports 1.05 to 1.20 billion bushels. Soybean output may reach a record 1.5 billion, yielding a Sept 1 1976 carryover around 470 million bushels.
