Onions from spring acreage are expected at 1 28 million sacks double 1950 507 000 sacks. June 1 tomato prospects total 2 409 million bushels up from 1 643 in 1950. War Medal Honor Won By Negro Doughboy Thompson
A 22 year old African American soldier from Brooklyn, William Thompson, will receive the Medal of Honor next week becoming the first Black recipient of the nation’s highest military award for valor since the Spanish-American War. Thompson, of the 24th regiment, 25th Infantry Division, was mortally wounded after manning a machine gun under heavy enemy fire in August, refusing to withdraw and delivering precise fire until death. His mother, Mrs. Mary Henderson, will accept the medal. Also honored are Cpl. John W. Collier, Pfc. Robert H. Young, and Pfc. Luther H. Story for conspicuous bravery in Korea.

Medlin murder trial set to start in Graeshe ck Monday
One hundred thirty four jurors were summoned for the Healy Ray Medlin trial near Mexia on Highway 14. The case, involving the Limestone couple Mr and Mrs Gates killed while walking home, has been postponed twice. Army transportation issues prevent witness Lester Sawyers from attending. Shell to build benzene and toluene plant in Houston refinery
