Milner Drug in Streetman Preserves a Century of Local Pharmacies

In Streetman Texas Milner Drug operates in the same building since 1912 preserving old fashioned service. J G Milner runs the store now nearly 80 after joining in 1918 and keeping hours 7 to 5 six days a week. The town's heyday faded with highway changes and cotton decline but Milner remains a link to local history.

Veterans Meet and Revival Activities in Mexia

The World War I veterans plan a 2:30 pm gathering at Gibbs Memorial Library in Mexia. A revival led by Evangelist Billy Daniels runs nightly at 7:30 pm at Northside Baptist Church through the week. Daniels, in ministry since 1961, has pastored churches and worked with missions in Texas. Also noted are recent IOOF events and plans for local charity drives, plus a Mexia School Board meeting tomorrow at 7:30 pm to review budgets and faculty appointments. The Groesbeck Tennis Open is set for June 23–26 with junior and adult divisions and entry through the Mexia Chamber of Commerce. Mexia Open dates are July 7–10.

James Earl Ray Captured After 3 Mile Brush With Hounds

James Earl Ray, fleeing from a life sentence, was tracked by two 14 month old bloodhounds Sandy and Little Red and found exhausted in a leaves pile on Brushy Mountain Tennessee. He was captured at 2 a.m. and returned to the prison, facing an administrative segregation hearing. Two escapees remain at large Douglas Shelton and Donald Caylor.

Limestone County Businesses Shown to Be Thriving

A government report titled County Business Patterns shows Limestone County hosts 342 business firms with more than 240 employing four or fewer workers. The area has 2,359 Social Security covered workers and an annual payroll of $13,455,000, up from $10,616,000 in 1973, with most firms under 20 employees.

Mystery of Ladina McCoy Ends With Body Found

Dallas police identify the skeletal remains of seven year old Ladina McCoy found in a creek bed four months after she vanished while walking to school. Investigators treat the death as a homicide though the exact cause and time of death are not yet determined.
