Girl Scouts Open Third Fort Parker Camp Session

The Pioneer Girl Scouts of North Central Texas open the camp’s third session at Fort Parker State Park. Girls ages 10 to 18 from 11 counties attend May 31 to June 20 with two weekly sessions. Troops from Mexia Belton Temple and Waxahachie participate. Camp director is Mrs. Mildred Fuchs with nurse Mrs. Mary Keats and supervisor Miss Marietta Creasy. Activities include swimming lessons taught by Miss Joy Pagis and Raymond Jenkins.

Grand Prairie Gas Blast Burns Two Tourists

A man and a woman from Grand Prairie are in serious condition after a gas explosion in a tourist court Sunday. Calvin L. Allen and Mary Sims suffered third degree burns over their bodies as three cabins were destroyed in the blast, police said.

A Mexia High School FHA chapter group will travel to Trinidad for a three day Future Homemaker camp. Agriculture Department scientists will study pink bollworm control at a new 73000 dollar research center in Brownsville Texas. Avery S Hoyt says Texas Southmost College will host the five acre laboratory near the Big Grande river with a 20 year lease and monthly rents of about 900 dollars first decade and 300 dollars second decade. Confessed killer given five year suspended sentence

Levelland Texas reports that school teacher Jack Killingsworth received a five year suspended sentence for the murder of his "best friend" who had seduced his wife. Richard McChristial was found guilty in self defense by a jury that deliberated under four hours.
