Max Conrad, 58 year old ferry pilot, completed a 7,168 mile solo flight from Casablanca to Los Angeles in 58 hours 35 minutes beating the previous record by over 800 miles. He suffered severe thirst due to mint flavored tea turning rancid in his thermos and joked about trading 18 gallons for gasoline. He plans a return flight to San Francisco and has logged 30 Atlantic solo crossings.

Train Defuses Dynamite Cache After Fuse Fire

A suitcase with 99 sticks of dynamite attached to a burning fuse was placed in front of an oncoming eastbound train near Des Moines. The fuse burned out when the train wheels struck it. officials say the hijack attempt failed as the fuse reached the dynamite cap without exploding. A witness reported the device just before the train passed.

Half Million Peach Harvest Opens in Point Enterprise

The Point Enterprise peach industry, valued at about half a million dollars, aims for full-scale operations by mid next week.
