Dr T D Brooks Baylor University Dean led 28 young ladies and 8 young men to receive their high school certificates in a grand Mexia High School commencement at the new auditorium. The event drew about 800 inside with hundreds more outside as programs included a Moonlight Sonata invocation and a valedictory by Dorothy Moore.

Tragic Derrick Accident Claims Local Driller
J W Denman a new bridegroom from Normangee died when a derrick collapsed during well work near Mexia. The accident at Willowhole Cemetery site left many mourners, as Denman and crew pulled casing under strain when the derrick toppled crushing him instantly. Burial followed at Willowhole with family and friends present.

Madison Wis June 5 Reports of drinking bouts involving members of the Legislature and other Wisconsin officials have been confirmed, Thomas Gales of the Anti Saloon League announced. Texas World War Veteran Faces Death in Prison Over Clemency
Houston June 5 A World War I veteran and tubercular patient at Camp Logan Hospital, T T Barton 26 was found guilty of auto theft and given a five year suspended sentence. Jurors later said they would not have imposed such a heavy penalty without a suspended sentence option. Barton's health worsened on furlough and he faces Texas State Penitentiary unless Governor Neff grants clemency before June 28 or pardons before the June 29 deadline.
