Violent storms hit from the Panhandle to the Gulf Coast with more forecasting through Friday. A Port Arthur man, Harley Eddingston Sr., was killed by lightning while fishing. Eight-inch hail lashed Alpine orchards and Marfa saw four feet of hail in a narrow strip. Flooded U S Highway 67 near Presidio and 1.19 inches of rain in two storms. Ranchers welcomed the soaking rain as showers were forecast to continue across the South Plains into tonight and Friday.
