A masked robber with a blackened face stole about $3,000 from Citizens National Bank of Weatherford at noon. The bandit fled in a late model black coupe, wearing yellow gloves and a straw hat, with no known accomplice and the town in rumors.
Rutland Vermont faced widespread disruption as floods undercut water gas and electric service after two flash floods. About 400 residents housed hens in the city of 17000 and five people were reported missing. Damage estimated at 1 to 2 million dollars and losses were mitigated by Red Cross relief and rapid water recede.

President Truman will not veto or sign the Republican tax reduction bill until next week or later. Senate Democrats point to three key roll calls to predict a sustained veto. Congressional action on the bill was completed yesterday. the president will be away to Kansas City Friday for a 35th Division World War I reunion.
Senator Theodore G Bilbo of Mississippi was back at Foundation Hospital New Orleans awaiting a third jaw operation He said he hoped to eat three steaks a day and to return to Washington to claim the Senate seat denied him in January Bilbo spoke from the hospital June 4 according to UP coverage.

Dr Henry M Garsson testified that former Congressman Andrew J May had no involvement in obtaining war contracts for his wartime munition combine. The statement aims to exonerate May from allegations linking him to the procurement of contracts during wartime.
The Texas Senate voted to adjourn the 50th legislature at noon Friday after a stormy session. Gov Jester signed a $45 million higher education bill and cut several items from the eleemosynary measure. The House earlier moved to end its recall mood, setting the stage for sine die adjournment.

J W Booker was elected president of the Mexia Negro Chamber of Commerce at the first meeting held Tuesday night at Carlyle Tatum's East Side business. Booker is Limestone County's Negro County Agent. Twenty one members attended with Raymond Dillard leading the Membership and Finance Committee. Other officers named were Alvin Collins vice president Robert Keatts treasurer and fayuni secretary. The next meeting is set for Tuesday night June 10.
Mexia announces Lucy Bozeman opens a new infants and children’s shop at 114 North McKinney Street in the former R and M Shoe Shop building. The store offers toys and clothes for ages up to six. Bozeman, a Mexia native and former Post Office worker, bought the Mom and Tat Shop from Mrs. Wolverton and aims to fill a first exclusive business niche in the area.
In an hour long session the Texas Senate confirmed reappointments to the State Parks Board. Raymond Dillard of Mexia and T C Ashford of Mandt were approved for another term after Gov Beauford Jester submitted their names.
