Mexia Projects Boost Street Sewer and Water Systems

The City of Mexia reports extensive street, sewer, and water upgrades completed since March. Key installs include 4000 feet of six inch sewer on North Ross costing about 11000 and 2300 feet of six inch water line on Tamarisk View costing about 7000 forming a loop on the east side. Additional smaller sewer and water work totals include 340 feet on North Red River 150 feet on East Titus and 1100 feet of water line on North Thomas. City Manager Walter Van deWeghe says growth keeps crews busy and several large projects remain in planning including loops for sewer northeast to southeast and water on the west side. Street topping on North Denton Chickasha and Wallace is slated for mid July with an estimated 40000 spending this year. Hughes Park improvements cost 12000.

Mexia City Cuts Water Waste After Pool Overhaul

The pool once leaked up to 144000 gallons daily now loses under 100 gallons. Repairs on the water reserve system aim to create a four million gallon standby. Daily, about 1.5 million gallons flow through the Mexia system as officials credit all departments for progress and budget discipline.

Iranians Tear Up Navarro County Jail in Protests

Navarro County jail chief Roy McNeel reports Iranian protesters arrested at Navarro Junior College damaged the jail by breaking windows tearing plaster and mortar from walls and ripping plumbing fixtures. About 57 Iranians protested the Shah of Iran calling him fascist and puppet of the U S. Many were charged with disorderly conduct and seven women with destruction of property. Over 30 Iranians were previously arrested for a similar protest.
