The newly formed Civic League met at the Public Library in Mexia, with Mrs. Weaver Barnett elected president. J. K. Hughes donated twelve acres for city beautification and committees were named: Constitution and By-Laws, Finance, Publicity, Membership, Cloak-up, Advisory Board, and Grounds.
Clara Phillips is to be placed in Los Angeles County Jail after arriving tonight. Authorities indicate she will be held for five days for technical reasons before transfer to San Quentin. Her appeal for a sexual case has been delayed due to her escape, according to officials.
