Washington AP A seven pound rhesus monkey named Able that completed a 300 mile high space flight last week died during surgery to remove a recording instrument. The Defense Department said the death was not related to the space flight and the operation involved removing a tiny electrode under the monkey’s skin to gather biomedical information.

Funeral services for Mrs. C. M. Paris 83 of Coolidge were conducted today at 4 p.m. in the Coolidge First Methodist church with Rev John Harper of Corsicana and local pastors assisting. Burial followed in Prairie Hill cemetery. Born May 25 1876 in Walker County she moved to Limestone County as a child and married O M Paris in 1904.
