Jaycee Rodeo Draws Capacity Crowds at Local Arena
Over two days the Jaycee Rodeo at the local arena drew capacity crowds with 2,200 in attendance at the turnstiles for the event and a windup crowd of 2,000 Saturday night. Prize money totaled 2,000 with five $25 buckles awarded. Winners included Carl Ford Valley View in bare bronc and Royce Roderick Jolly in bull riding. multiple riders from Fort Worth Dallas Mexia and Teague placed in events such as steer dogging calf roping and ribbon roping. Judges and officials from Fort Worth Clifton Mexia were listed, along with announcer Rip McKenzie.

Thornton Youth in Critical Shape After Car Wreck
Lou Sanders a 19 year old Thornton youth is in critical condition at Christoffer Edgar Hospital after a Sunday morning crash on the old Groesbeck road near Plummers Creek bridge. He suffered a back injury a spinal injury and a cerebral concussion. Also hospitalized were Allen McCoslin 17 and Kenneth Stutts 23 passengers. The car a 1955 Ford swerved crossed the guard railing fell 35 feet into the creek bed. Police say excessive speed on a sharp curve caused loss of control. Bo Jack Smith aided in rescue work and the wreck incurred about 1500 dollars in damage.
