In Dayton Tennessee Clarence Darrow objected to opening the Scopes trial with prayer. Judge Raulston overruled the objection and Darrow read an exception. Darrow denounced moves to bar evolution as a threat to liberty while William Jennings Bryan watched.
William Jennings Bryan Jr. aided his father in prosecuting John T L Scones at Dayton Tennessee. He warned the nation would decay if evolution were taught in schools and spoke after leaving his Los Angeles home.
A 12 hour day in Standard Oil controlled industries will be replaced with an eight hour day and higher wages tomorrow. John D. Rockefeller Jr allegedly approves but did not order the change. Hundreds of new workers will be hired. drillers get $1.25 an hour and handlers $1.00. overall pay drops are limited to $2 less for eight hours.
The Texas Company has met the Prairie Oil and Gas price schedule for crude oil in the Oklahoma North Central Central Texas districts of the Mid-Continent field. The move, effective July 10, follows Prairie Oil's price advance.

Vernon July 14 R T Elkins oil field worker was seriously burned when a boiler exploded in the southwestern field this morning. He may recover, hospital authorities said.
Three married farmers Albert Couch Richard Spencer and Ernest Decker were killed by lightning while working in a hay field near Shelbina Missouri yesterday. The incident occurred during a storm that swept the area. The victims were named and local authorities investigated the accident.

Bloodhounds combed Camden area for a single hijacker who shot and killed James N. Moore and wounded his daughter Trixie during a nighttime robbery attempt. The bandit fired five times after Moore refused to surrender. Moore died, the woman was wounded in the hand, and the assailant fled.
Kansas City report states civilian flyer Ww. F. Spencer and mechanic Glenn Quinn were injured when their plane hit a team of mules near Richards Field. A mule was killed in the collision during takeoff as the pilot could not see the animal in time.
