Noah New reminds students of a New Year Eve dance at Ross Avenue Elementary School tomorrow night. The 8 PM event, sponsored by the band, costs 50 cents for couples or singles. Doris Curry leads arrangements. Also noted: J. W. Elliott reappointed to Texas Game and Fish Commission for a six year term.
UPI reports Emanuel Celler, D New York, calls on President Eisenhower to resign temporarily if he must remain a figurehead. He cites a “palace guard” of Sherman Adams and unelected cabinet officers running the government and urges Congress to act this year on disability legislation.
Richard Buxton, newly commissioned as a second lieutenant, is assigned to lead the mess section under SFC Curtis L. Miller after serving as an ordinary GI at KP. The piece notes the word constable derives from Latin meaning master of the horse.
The U S Weather Bureau forecast for Mexia and North Central Texas calls for cloudy to partly cloudy skies and mild temperatures through Tuesday. Scattered showers expected Tuesday with Mexia’s low around 49 and high near 68. Last night’s Mexia low was 47 and Sunday’s high 52.

A two day inquiry by a congressional committee examines the Dallas milk price war blamed by Rep. Wright Patman for favoring big business over small. Beverly Hills Dairy sues five dairies for 1 million dollars and seeks an injunction against price fixing. Patman criticizes administration policy and promises a bill to replace the Small Business Administration with a body aiding small business.
Funeral services for Mrs. Mary V. Hunt 88 were held at First Baptist Church of Point Enterprise. Rev. Glen Walker officiated with Rev. Frank Steele assisting. Interment followed at Point Enterprise Cemetery. She was born April 24 1869 in Mississippi and lived in Limestone County most of her life. Surviving are a daughter Mrs L A Lightsey two sisters two brothers and two grandchildren.
A 35 year old man suffered first and second degree burns over much of his body when a still exploded as a 55 gallon batch of wheat mash was being heated in Fort Worth. Police found 200 gallons of white lightning in the bathtub and noted the man planned to bottle and store the brew for New Year’s Eve.
Burglars who looted the Robert Anderson residence apparently planned to set up housekeeping. They took a coffee maker a waffle iron an electric knife sharpener a wall clock a bedroom clock several suits 20 watches 80 pounds of frozen meat four bottles of whiskey an empty piggy bank and 77 dollars in cash. Residents find reason for mail going astray in Alvaston England as a town council workman altered street numbers on the lane.
President Eisenhower today approved for submission to Congress a seven point program to expand scientific education with federal and state funding totaling about 1.8 billion dollars over four years. The plan includes 10,000 annual federal college scholarships, graduate fellowships, and increased support for science and language teaching nationwide.

United Press reports Texas ended the Christmas to New Year period with a lower violent death rate than expected. By 11:59 pm on January 1 the DPS death watch shows 152 total with 71 traffic, 45 homicide and personal crisis, and 36 other accidents. A Rosenberg fire killed Brenda Carr, 4, and her sister, 3. A 11-year-old Alvard farmer died from gunshot wounds. Justice of the peace Ray Nobles ruled William Martin King shot himself.

Amarillo police report two 14-year-old boys confessed to setting off a homemade four inch square bomb in a downtown theatre Friday night, injuring four people none seriously. They were arrested Saturday by detectives after a tour of teen hangouts.
