Brown haired Jeanine Holland 21 a Texas State College for Women senior won the 1951 Maid of Cotton title from 29 contestants representing nine cotton states. She will receive Parisian Wardrobe wardrobes a 66 000 mile tour and will tour the United States Europe and South America praising cotton. Jeanine plans New Year fittings in New York and will attend the Cotton Bowl in Dallas on New Year’s Day. Her parents Houston residents and brother J C Holland Jr volunteered for the Marine Corps. First alternate was Elanore Chalmers. second alternate Jean Neal.

Johnson Jr a 30 year old Houston Black man died in the electric chair in Huntsville after being convicted of luring an 11 year old white girl from a church playground on November 19 1949 claiming a priest wanted to see her testimony at his trial said he lured the girl away and killed her leading to the execution.

Lieut. Gen. Troy H. Middleton, 61, a retired World War II commander of the U.S. Army I Corps, will become president of Louisiana State University on February 1. He succeeds Dr. Harold W.
