A joint meeting of Groesbeck Teague and Mexia Jaycees occurs Friday at 7:00 p.m. in Red Smith's Cafe banquet hall Mexia. John F Mangrum Texas Jaycees president will speak outlining 1947 plans and a $25 attendance prize will be awarded to a Jaycee attendee.
Dallas city council members endorsed the new garbage collection tax, with Mayor Rodgers insisting on not repealing it. He argued protests at the start of the campaign did not reflect public opinion and cited tax payment records showing approval.
San Diego December 27. Search parties pressed to reach a burned promontory on Cuyapaipe mountain to recover the wreckage of a Western airliner that vanished Christmas Eve with 12 aboard. Junius T Foote veteran Durant businessman and civic leader died of a cerebral hemorrhage at his West Main Street home Monday. He spent over four decades in Durant civic life and built the Durant Nursery Company, one of the Southwest’s largest nurseries.

Joe Woolens executive of the K Woolens stores died in a Dallas hospital. A native of Corsicana he led local chambers and civic groups and served as secretary treasurer of the Texas department store chain founded by his father. He was a national director of Camp Fire Girls and treasurer of the Southwest Zionist Organization. He attended the University of Texas and Baylor University.
Secretary of the Navy James Forre tahl announces wives and children of Marine Corps personnel may join their husbands in China under the same regulations as army and navy personnel in the area. Also notes Rev Douglas Lewis of Fort Worth will preach at Point Enterprise Sunday morning and evening services.
Increased butter production and creameries inability to sell old line stocks forced a nine cent retail slash across the country. Wholesale prices in New York and Chicago fell two to 10 cents per pound, with major chains cutting Chicago from 87 10 to 81 cents and New York from 89 to 80 cents. National and Great Atlantic and Pacific Tea Company led reductions while others planned local adjustments. Industry spokesmen attributed the decline to higher output and weak demand at old prices.

Defendants include Pan American Refining Corp of Texas City 3.5 million and Crown Central Petroleum Corp Houston 325 thousand. Sheffield Steel Corp faces a 1 million portal pay claim and Dow Chemical Co. is threatened with a 1.5 million suit.
Washington December 27 George E Allen longtime ally of President Truman resigns from the Reconstruction Finance Corp effective January 16 He proposed a complete revision of the RFC Act and Truman appoints John D Goodloc to replace him Allen will return to private business and already holds directorships in more than 100 major corporations.
Dr. C Darby Fulton executive secretary of the Southern Presbyterian Church foreign missions will address the Presbyterian Hour next Sunday December 29 at 8 30 am over southeastern radio stations. Born in Japan he studied at Presbyterian College and Columbia Theological Seminary and served as a missionary in Japan for eight years before taking a field secretary post in Nashville then his current role He has written widely on missions and will discuss The Chapter of the Church on WEAA Mexia station.
In Washington on December 27 Representative J Parnell Thomas announced he would fire committee counsel Ernie Adamson if he becomes chairman of the House Un American Activities Committee. Thomas said Adamson tried to wreck the panel by releasing a report claiming American communists aim to spark revolution through a general strike. Another member urged caution to avoid misdiagnosing industrial unrest. The fired counsel issue was pressed as a partisan clash with the current majority.
Shanghai reports that radar use by CNAC and CATC pilots was the main cause of three crashes near Shanghai on Christmas night, killing about 70 people and injuring many. Lt. C. D. Allen said radar guidance could have helped. two Navy planes and one CNAC plane were guided in fog. Airlines offered compensation to families and injured.
The Department of Commerce reports 13 004 bales of cotton ginned in Limestone County from the crop of 1956 prior to December 1 compared with 20 968 bales for the crop of 1945.
