Banks Farmers State and First National in Mexia announce 4 percent interest on savings accounts of one year or more starting January 1 1962. Six months to one year accounts earn 3.5 percent under federal regulations following Fed and FDIC ruling.
The General Mexia Hospital board asks former residents to buy stock to raise 500000 for a new 40 bed hospital on South Bonham. They have about 200000 subscribed with bids due January and plan to borrow little, aiming for long term self sufficiency and growth.
The Mexia Daily News highlights how local children express gratitude and good behavior in letters to Santa. Many request simple gifts like dolls candy and fruit while asking Santa to remember parents and less fortunate children. Fines average 1500 to 2000 dollars monthly, reflecting steady enforcement and a motto to keep Mexia safe without becoming a speed trap.
A Coca Cola Bottling Co route salesman, Bobby Fife, lost 104 dollars after a pickpocket took his wallet in a crowded Mexia grocery store Friday afternoon. He had been collecting money from his soft drink route.
Funeral services for Charlie Sunday 77 of Shiloh were held Saturday at 3 p m in Corley Chapel with the Rev W R Dillard of Shiloh Baptist Church and St Wayne Lucas of Shiloh Church of Christ officiating.
Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. held its annual Christmas party Thursday in the Telephone Building lounge. Employees, families, and retirees enjoyed a turkey dinner with trimmings. Mrs. Florence Ellisor gave the invocation. Out of town guests included G T Sultenfuss and Wayne Hodges, with hostesses Ken Maynard Tad Burroughs Fannie L Weaver and Jack McClaran.
Dusty Walton, about 30, died Thursday night in a Midland hospital. Masonic graveside services are set for 2:30 PM Sunday at Greenwood Cemetery, Teague, with his body arriving 11:30 AM and held at Ham Brothers chapel until service time. He is survived by his wife Betty Smith, three children, and father Ott Walton of Mexia. The Midland service occurred Saturday at 10:30 AM.
