In Port Isabel Texas on December 22 heavy fog delays the five big amphibian army planes bound for Tampico Mexico. Major H A Dargue says poor visibility endangers takeoff and departure will wait for lifting fog until 2 30 or 5 00 PM. if not lifted the hop off will be abandoned for today.
Col. Carr A. Thompson, special investigator for President Coolidge, released a White House report disapproving immediate independence for the Philippines. The Mindanao and Sulu regions should not be separated from the rest of the islands, and American control should be strengthened in these provinces.
Wildcatting in East Central Texas continues as Killam and Phillips plan a new test near Hubbard City Limestone County line. The drilling rig will be spudded in before Christmas on a 122 acre tract, with Meers of Hubbard City guiding geology and leasing activity expanding across the Hill County area.
Oklahoma City December 22 The Edith M Bishop murder case moves through preliminary proceedings as lab experts and detectives present fingerprint and ballistic evidence. The trial centers on whether the widow should be bound over after testimony about the slain Luther Bishop and the two gun officer.
Citizens urge Mexia to receive a Christmas cleanup with focus on the business district. They call for immediate work to clean streets and for systems to maintain cleanliness, believing well kept streets will draw crowds and boost the Buy and Sell It in Mexia Campaign.
Gov elect Dan Moody returned from a deer hunt in La Salle county with no cabinet appointments announced. In Austin on December 22 six more pardons were granted as Christmas gifts to convicts.
In Texas court records B W Erlich of Mexia had an appeal dismissed to become eligible for a pardon. He previously received a four year sentence for transporting 96 quarts of whiskey in a coupe after a prior one year term. He faced further liquor charges in Limestone County with 56 quarts found in his car and is under pursuit for additional indictments.
In Somerville New Jersey on December 22 two troopers were held at bay by two brothers and a sister at their farm house on Jutland Mountain. Tear gas forced surrender after a nightlong siege. Beatrice Meany was unconscious with two bullet wounds in the leg while Timothy Meany stood and James Meany was wounded in the knee. All three were taken to Somerville Hospital as officers Peter J. Smith and Matthew W. Daley sustained minor injuries.
Chicago December reports reveal Ty Cobb and Tris Speaker linked to a betting scandal as Commissioner Landis drops them from baseball roles. Byron Bancroft Johnson confirms Cobb and Speaker were dropped amid shock and tears as Leonard, Wood, and others affected.
Marshall P. Willis of Mexia is named deputy in-charge of the Mexia branch of the sheriff department effective January 1 when A B McKenzie becomes sheriff. Willis accepted the office tender and will be succeeded as constable by Gene Lamb.
J R Horn and sons of Abilene have begun work on the city’s new municipal building costing 140000. Headed by J R Horn and King Key the project includes a 1200 seat auditorium and a city administration block in Spanish brick and stone on the Main and McKinney streets corner opposite the old city hall.
Three men armed with revolvers struck the Campbell branch of the Mercantile Trust Company in San Jose California. They forced five employees into a basement room and looted $5 000 in currency and silver from the vault. One bandit was shot and captured later. The captured man is Dan Murphy 29 Boston.
Charges against four Oak Cliff high school football players will be heard by the Interscholastic League committee at 2 30 p m Roy B Henderson secretary said If the protest is allowed it would make no difference in the league standings since Waco had clearly demonstrated its superiority.

In Nashville two days of rain create widespread floods. thousands lose phones and basements flood. Five men drown at Catlettsville when Big Sandy River high water collapses a bridge.
A big Christmas program is set for Thursday at 7 p.m. in the First Christian Church auditorium. The Sunday school program will precede a Christmas tree in the basement with Santa Claus present. All church members and Sunday school workers are invited.
Burglars entered John Jones store in Coolidge early Monday morning and stole sacks of flour and sugar along with two revolvers and other valuables. They fled in an automobile. officers searched the town all day but found no trace.
