Pope Pius XII will receive greetings from the College of Cardinals on Christmas Eve and deliver a radio report on the Roman Catholic Church's 1946 activity. The 73 year old Pontiff is expected to address the spread of Communism from East to West and its reach toward the City of Peter.
President Truman told wounded veterans that peace has not yet been achieved or secured but expressed hope during the holidays. He and General Omar Bradley sent Christmas greetings to 112,000 veterans in 122 facilities, with individual copies of the messages for each recipient.
Reports indicate downtown Mexia stores will close on Christmas and the day after, while some stay closed only on Christmas. The News seeks a full listing by calling 491 or 492 to confirm which shops close both days. Also noted is Buck Ridge school where all seven pupils are relatives of their teacher Miss Dorothy Lewis.

The world famous feature produced by DeMille will be shown in Mexia with the Limestone Youth for Christ School hosting a 3:30 p.m. showing on December 29. The final screening is at 7:20 p.m. Sunday December 22 at the First Baptist Church, followed by a cantata at 7:45. Rev Harrell extends a cordial invitation to all citizens.

In Athens Georgia the FBI will continue its investigation into the Walton County lynchings of four Black men after a federal grand jury failed to indict despite testimonies from more than 3100 witnesses. The Justice Department said its inquiry remains active. The killings followed the stabbing of a white man at a river bridge.
