Senate OKs anti slot bill amid laryngitis fade

The U S Senate approved the anti slot machine measure banning inter state shipment of gambling devices into non exempt states. Sen George Malone of Nevada abandoned a 50 minute protest due to laryngitis prompting the bill’s passage.

Changes At Limestone County Courthouse At Year Start

Miss Jeanie Pitts will appoint Florence Gamble Jones as deputy district clerk of Limestone county after the new year. Don Barfield of Waco will become assistant county attorney replacing Jimmy Adams who resigns Jan 1 to join the legislature. The report notes other incumbents keep their posts and Willis Schultz and Sheriff Green will see no change in leadership.

Two Boys Burned After Gasoline Can Explodes

In Austin two young boys Willie B Atwood and Robert Louis Atwood, ages 11 and 13, were critically burned when a five gallon gasoline can exploded during a fire in a wood house. The incident left them in critical condition today as investigators assess the cause.

Texas Woman Gets Two-Year Term In Killing Of Mother

Red hair Edna Mead, 22, was convicted in El Paso of beating her mother Ada Bradford to death with a hammer. A jury returned the verdict at 1 a.m. and recommended a two year sentence. The case marked her second trial after a mistrial last spring and a deadlocked jury. Mead testified Bradford stabbed her with scissors amid marital tension.

Four Limestone Couples Receive Marriage Licenses

Limestone County issued licenses to four couples as district court activity remained idle. The pairs are Charles Hay Wootenn and Jama Wimberly, Doyle Clayton Holmes and Norma Mae Hardee, William C. Police report cattle rustlers arrested in Houston after a pursuit ending near the stock yards. Authorities recovered stolen cattle and began investigations into suspects and associated livestock theft rings.
