In Groesbeck Judge H Fountain Kirby’s court, Jim Tatum, a Groesbeck resident, sues the Southern Pacific Railroad for $31,000 claiming both legs broken after a wagon was struck at the Navosata street intersection last January. Testimony showed the railroad paid a $1,500 claim soon after the accident, with most of the amount going to doctors and ambulance bills.

Dempsey Released From Mexia Hospital After Shooting
Melvin Dempsey, 23, of Mexia, has returned home after 12 days in a local hospital following a Dec. 6 shooting that killed Mrs. Annie McDonald Milam. Dempsey, shot once in the face, was in serious condition but recovered after the slug was removed. James Rudasill, 26, Mexia, is charged with assault with intent to murder Dempsey and with Milam’s murder. a Jan. 23 trial opening is planned. Pistol and slugs from Dempsey and Milam have not been returned to authorities pending ballistics tests in Austin.

The E W Jarman et al No 1 Lola Garrett wildcat two miles northwest of Kosse in the M Hunt survey is bottomed at 4242 feet and a completion attempt is planned next week. Operators will set a plug at 3900 feet and run seven inch casing to 3665 for an open hole test. Shows oil and gas from 3705 to 3880 feet with a good sand show at 3515 to 3535 feet. The well sits a half mile west of the Humphrey Jones short time gusher from a Woodbine crevice.
