Funeral services were held at the family residence in Mexia at 2 p m for Mrs. Ben Smith who died in the Dallas Medical and Surgical clinic yesterday. Rev J S Patterson officiated with interment in the city cemetery. Pallbearers included Marion Forrest Blake Smith Jr John Sanders Fort Smith Duffield Smith Gene Womack Dr O T Christotler Robert DeLong E B Mosley Rufus Peeples and O B Wilson. Mrs Smith born June 30 1884 in Mexia was daughter of Benjamin and Mary Machon pioneer settlers. She was predeceased by husband in Oct 1943 and survived by a daughter and two sons Mrs Judd Stiff Dallas Ben Smith Jr El Dorado Ark Jim Smith Dallas and five grandchildren.

Sergeant and wife die in Houston duplex fire
An Army staff sergeant due to retirement in a month and his young wife were killed when a blaze swept their second floor apartment in a duplex three miles south of South Houston. Fred V. Miller, 36, and Ola Landrum Miller, 23, were trapped after the fire blocked the outside stairway.
