Premier Mendes-France announced he would seek a confidence vote in the National Assembly on the German rearmament package and related treaties. He said approval would be demanded for the pac kage deal reached in London and Paris amid ongoing conferences.
Mexia bus driver Russell Trantham received a 415.50 ticket for an improper turn in a collision with a car on Highway 84 west of Mexia. He pleaded not guilty noting no law violation. Miss Martha Campbell, driver of the car, and several passengers were injured. no schoolchildren on the bus were hurt.

Three Baylor University speech students spoke at the Mexia Lions Club luncheon at J and W Cafe. In Tallulah Louisiana Supreme Court Justice William Douglas 56 weds Mercedes Davidson 34 at her parents home. The ceremony occurred yesterday and the couple left for a honeymoon in the west.
Thomas M. Rosegrant, 46, of Houston, spent sixteen hours marooned on a Trinity Bay mudflat near Baytown Texas amid near freezing weather. He was hospitalized for shock and exposure after being found by the Baytown Emergency Corps when his wife reported he did not return from a fishing trip.
The Limestone county peach growers field day will be held Friday at Point Enterprise community building opening at 10 a.m. County Agent M H Brown Jr. will preside. Ellice Lightsey chairs the committee with talks and films on new peach varieties cultivation care of orchards diseases and insects. Attendees include Bruford Hancock and Dr Guy Adrience from Texas A&M College plus others from the Texas A&M Extension Service. Lunch will be served at noon.
Six civic groups including Rotary Lions and Business and Professional Women launched a contest to recruit donors for the December 28 Red Cross bloodmobile visit. Six rural communities Shiloh Pt Enterprise Forest Glade Tehuacana Woodland and Sandy are invited to compete. Coolidge will send busloads to the First Baptist Church 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The local quota is 128 pints and Mexia fears missing its target and potential future participation.
The State Fair of Texas reported a net profit of $300,632.20 for the year ending November 16 at its annual meeting. Secretary Bowen Cox said gross receipts during the 1954 fair were higher than 1983 but expenses rose too, resulting in a smaller profit than last year’s $950,438.
Mexia merchants will keep stores open until eight oclock on December 22 23 and 24 according to C Kilsingworth Mexia Chamber of Commerce manager after a merchant survey.

India reports Prime Minister Nehru urged Red China to accept a UN request for a Peiping meeting on the fate of 11 U S airmen jailed by the Communists as spies.
Senator Olin D. Johnston of South Carolina and Representative Asher Burdick of North Dakota said government acreage cuts and lower price supports for cotton and wheat are pushing farmers toward urban areas. Johnston claimed the policy mirrors Hoover era distress while Burdick noted reduced wheat allotments and prices are forcing Northeastern farmers out of business.
President Eisenhower said a postponement of corporation and estate tax cuts is needed next year to keep the economy in balance. He expected strong Republican backing for his full program and noted real signs of Democratic support for the foreign policy and defense portions of his plan. A rattlesnake is said to have two rattles for each year of its age.

A Mexia girl, Byes id Caro lyn Proctor, was struck by a car while crossing Highway 66 College Avenue returning to Dunbar School. The driver, just entering city limits, faced charges as police investigated the incident.

Colder air moves into North Central Texas with a forecast low around 42 in Mexia tonight after a 60s high yesterday. The U S forecast calls for fair skies tonight and tomorrow with a dip in temperatures as a new cold front from Washington and Oregon moves south. Temperatures ranged from 17 in Calharts Panhandle to 60 in Mexia with 47 in Brownsville and Corpus Christi noted.
