Mexia saw a low of 25 degrees Friday night with a 57 degree high Friday afternoon. The weather forecast noted colder conditions in West Texas and milder warmth in East Texas with Austin set for near 70 before a Texas-Louisiana State football game. Funeral Services Held In Thornton For Claude Lawless
Funeral services were held at Central Baptist church in Thornton for Claude H. Lawless 56 who died in Marlin of a heart ailment. Interment was in Thornton with Riddle funeral home of Mexia in charge. Lawless a farmer born July 25 1884 in Henderson served with the 36th Infantry during World War I. Survived by two daughters Obie Pipkin and Ernest Tuimann both of Otto Texas two brothers Homer Groesbeck Walter and three sisters Mrs W M McKay Raymondville Mrs Joe Harris San Antonio Mrs H J Coker Port Arthur Mrs C V Echols Pharr and two grandchildren.

Twirlers Named To Accompany PeeWees To Milk Bowl

Tugboat captain slain in suspected lover's tryst
In Galveston a 35 year old refinery worker, Starley White, shot and killed his wife's alleged lover Newton P Hale, a 30 year old tugboat captain, found with his wife in a tourist court cabin.
