Printers Strike Delays Abilene Reporter News Edition
Abilene December 10. An 18 page morning edition appeared despite a printers strike by Local 494 of the International Typographical Union with 29 composing room employees walking out. Advertising and news executives wore aprons to prepare pages, the press ran five minutes late, and one afternoon edition was canceled. Teletype operators and a printer arrived from San Angelo to bolster emergency crews.

Communist controlled unions in Rome ordered a general strike for more than 500,000 workers in the city and province to begin at midnight after rejecting a government plan.
