Texas Railroad Commission has granted 188 drilling permits in the Wortham oil field with about 200 in process. East side locations total 44 and west side 94, mostly near old Hackney test and J P Lindley locations. The field, only two weeks old with two producers, draws 25 regular permits today plus nine from Humble Oil.

Eastland Man Given 99 Years In Murder Case
R L Mohler of Eastland was sentenced to ninety nine years for the murder of Hugh Meples a mail carrier. The verdict followed a seventeen hour jury deliberation after a retrial on the 1922 indictment naming Kessley Maples of Cisco Rommey as driver. Maples’ body was found buried near his brother’s Coryell county home.
