Allen Therrell formerly of Groesbeck was found guilty of simple assault on Homer Beville city commissioner and mayor pro tem. A county court jury heard nine witnesses and fined Therrell 5 dollars plus costs totaling 48 dollars 10 cents. He faced a prior aggravated assault conviction this year and received a 200 dollar fine then.

Black Cats Recruit for 100 in Mexia Guard Drive
In a two week push Company B of the local National Guard added 16 men to reach 71 enlisted with two officers. Captain Brotherton seeks 100 by March 1 1950 to avoid moving the unit from Mexia. Jury Finds Seaman Guilty of Assaulting Houston Schoolgirl
In Houston a district court jury sentenced Allen Conway Williams, a 38 year old merchant seaman, to death in the electric chair for sexual assault on a 10 year old girl. The girl testified he sat beside her at a movie and made indecent advances before latching onto a ride home. The attack occurred October 20 after she was lured into a stranger's car. Williams pleaded innocence and claimed he was crazy drunk if guilty.
