The Mexia Daily News reports the W. M. White School building was abandoned amid safety concerns. The paper apologizes for earlier statements, cites citizen letters, and urges prompt repairs and a first-rate Mexia school system with public cooperation.
The Mexia School Board ordered the W. M. White Elementary building abandoned after a state safety review. No students or staff are housed there, and plans for future elementary use will be announced locally.
The Mexia Friday Club hosts a Christmas program at the City Auditorium on Friday. Catherine McGrail and Mrs. gon Jackson sponsor the event which opens with the club collection and features Christmas scenes including children in a snow scene and a Nativity tableau with Mexia High School Choral, Joseph, Mary, and the Wise Men. The audience will join in singing carols at the end. No charge for admission.
Ground was broken today two miles west of Belton for a new reservoir and dam. Attendees included Gen Elect Lyndon B. Johnson, Representatives Poage Beckworth Teague, and Col Henry Hutchings Jr Division Engineer of the Southwest Division Corps of Engineers after a barbecue and band concert.
Paris reports say the United States Britain plan three changes to the Palestine conciliation proposal. They aim to drop references to last year partitions and Israel, remove the term State of Israel, and let the General Assembly choose three conciliation team members. Britain may seek deferment of Israel's application as debate continues.
Southwestern Bell Telephone Company proposed wage increases of five to 15 cents an hour for about 56,000 employees during contract talks with division 20 of the Communications Workers of America. The offer follows a four cent maximum proposed last September as bargaining began in April across Missouri Oklahoma Kansas Arkansas Texas and a portion of Illinois.

The Mexia Lions Club announces a feature added to the city concert at the auditorium Saturday night. Mexia High School Black Cat band will perform a 30 to 45 minute concert before the Melody Maid show starting at 7 45 p m. Balcony seating will be reserved for Black Mexia's Negro citizens who wish to attend.
Dallas markets report cotton prices with base middling around 32.16 on May futures and variations across districts. Fort Worth grain totals show receipts and prices for wheat, oats, sorghums, corn, and barley with values per bushel and per hundredweight in regional trading notes.

Ben F Stollenwerck died at a hospital after service in France. Funeral held at Amersan-Cheet Funeral Home in Terrell. Survived by two sisters Mrs S Reel and Mrs Br number of nieces. He was a member of the Mexia Ant Club and former secretary of the Mexia Re Club.
Funeral services were held at 2 pm Thursday at a Catholic church for the infant son of Mr and Mrs George Ingram. Burial followed at Ridge Cemetery. The Riggis Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.
