Wreckage sighted of missing DC-3 airliner in California

1000 Mile Per Hour Speeds On X 1 Rocket Ship
HAMLIN West Virginia AP The Air Force says the X 1 rocket plane deemed obsolete has flown by eight pilots at speeds near 1000 miles per hour in tests for four improved models. Charles Yeager 26 led pilots at Patterson Wright field Dayton Ohio as speeds over 200 mph faster than sound were achieved. He declined to reveal the maximum speed. The craft is being junked while four improved models move from drawing boards or assembly lines.

Pipeline Explosion Triggers Million Dollar Fire Near Centralia
A Panhandle Eastern gas pipeline exploded five miles from Centralia Missouri, causing an estimated one million dollars in damage. Engineer Charles Wright said two cooling towers burned, the main engine room and several buildings damaged, and the area remained too hot to determine a cause.
