McGregor Experiment Station seeks calves from about 2,900 cows for crossbred AI bred between January and June, with prices around 150 to 160 dollars at 90 days. Lipe Joins Texas A&M Overton Pomology Staff

Dr. John A. Lipe has joined the Texas Agricultural Experiment Station as assistant professor of pomology at the Overton center. Effective December 1, his work will focus on berries peaches and other tree fruits. He is a Cameron County native and Texas A&M graduate student now completing a PhD in plant physiology.

Star Studded Talent Due In For Annual Houston Show

Star studded lineup announced for the 40th anniversary Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo at the Astrodome. Roy Rogers and Dale Evans open the event February 25 with matinee and evening shows, followed by Nabors, Charley Pride, and Roger Miller across February 26 27 and 28 respectively. Livestock show opens February 23 with festivities surrounding the gala rodeo.

New Cotton Breed May Boost Boll Weevil Control

The Agriculture Department reports Frego bract cottoni, a mutant found in Arkansas in 1940, can cut boll weevil populations by 66 to 94 percent. Though not high quality for commerce, it might be bred into usable cotton within five years. Bracts disorient the weevil, delaying egg laying and reducing pesticide needs.
