Mr and Mrs Parker Means report a pleasant deer hunt in Blanco County between Johnson City and Marble Falls. Mrs Means first spotted a deer, an eight pointer, while Mr Means topped her with a nine pointer. He also bagged a two pound dressed turkey gobbler.
President Eisenhower carried his peace mission into Asia, drawing a throng of about one million Pakistanis in Karachi. The visit featured a state carriage, a Sabrejet flyover, and pledges that the United States and Pakistan will strive for a just peace for all mankind.
The Democratic Advisory Council denounces the Republican defense, calling it second-rate and costly to freedom and national security. Adlai Stevenson chairs a dinner with Eleanor Roosevelt where Kennedy, Brown, Williams, Meyner, Humphrey, Symington speak, joining Truman and Acheson in endorsing the council’s principles on inflation and missile lag.
Federal mediators and members of Congress pressed union and management negotiators today to reach an early settlement in the stock strike. The effort aimed to break deadlock and resume production with potential federal support.

Students from Temple Waco Killeen Lampasas Gatesville Corsicana Round Rock and Midway attend the District 10 Future Teachers of America gathering in Mexia hosted by the Mexia chapter led by sponsor Miss Minnie Ruth Smith. The program opened with an invocation by Dr. Frank Taylor and welcome by A G Smith. Navarro Junior College president Ben Jones acted as principal speaker. Officers were to be elected and the Mr FTA Miss FTA contest named.
Skies were clear in Mexia by noon Monday with a forecast for cloudy conditions tonight and a low just below 42 degrees. Mexia and surroundings expect a 40 degree low Monday night and a high of 70 elsewhere. Elsewhere will have clear, cool, dry air for the rest of Texas as a warming trend begins this afternoon.
Mexia high school hosts the annual Powder Puff game on Tuesday at 4 30 at Black Cat field pitting senior girls against underclassmen with 25 cent admission proceeds supporting a senior gift to the school Coaches Sumpter Frazier Tommy Day lead the seniors while Buddy Bates Fred die Gilbert coach the underclassmen Officials from the Dallas State Football Officials Association include Maurice Fife Robert Conn Dicky Flatt and Woody Marrs.
Mexia city commission relocates December session to Tuesday at 7 30 p m. City Manager Howard F Mace l cites request from the Mexia Ministerial Alliance and participant convenience. Commission members listed include Herman Hitt Herman FPucke Dan Edd t amil ton J M Efler and L B Stanford.
Fifteen Mexia High School Black Cat band members earned spots at the Region II All Regional contest held in Belton. Eight won first unit positions and seven placed on the second unit. Kay Christoffer leads the first chair bass, with several other students taking flute, clarinet, trombone and bass horn places. Christoffer heads to area tryouts for All State. The All Regional contest will be at Rockdale. Over 400 students competed from multiple area schools.
Funeral services for J. T. Turner age 72 a native of Dawson were held Friday at 3 p.m. in the First Methodist Church with Rev. Robert W. Sanders officiating assisted by Rev. Milton Slayden. Burial followed in Dawson Cemetery. Turner died Wednesday in a Waco hospital after a brief illness. Surviving are his widow a son Clay Turner of Dawson a granddaughter two sisters and one brother.
A piercing Atlantic gale swept into Europe today driving waves to heights up to 80 feet. The storm battered coastal areas with heavy wind and surf, prompting warnings and emergency measures along the shoreline.
Mexia Mayor and Mrs. Herman Hill return from the Mayors Around the World Goodwill Trip to present a Lions Club luncheon program. The HIlls will share highlights and show pictures from stops in Hawaii Japan Hong Kong Vietnam Thailand Burma India Nepal Greece France Belgium and the Holy Land. The talk at the J and V Cale dining hall was arranged by Joe Nussbaum.

Mexia Lions Club to run a community light bulb sale tonight. Chairman C W Teel says volunteers meet at 6:30 PM at the Group 70 Scout House and canvass many town areas. Each sack costs 2 dollars with five 100 watt and three 60 watt bulbs. Bulbs will be charged to light bills via a signed slip. Team leaders include Pearson Saltsman, Hubert Harrison, Edward Clark and Marvin Kinsey.
Dr Ben T Galbraith once a McAlester heart specialist who killed his wife and three children in 1935 died by suicide in his prison cell. He used a concealed blade and died at 3 37 am after an attempted fourth suicide. He left a note asking for cremation and ashes scattered on his family graves. He had pleaded insanity at his trials and was arrested after the murders in Henderson Tennessee.
Berkeley two UC groups finished a 43 hour basketball marathon Sunday claiming a new world record. Final score Cloyne Court 4496 Deutsch Hall 3278. Marathon began Friday 3 p.m. and ended Sunday 1 p.m. with an hour of timeouts not counted. About 460 players participated. they said the old 42 hour standard set at the University of Washington last January was surpassed.
The Mexia High School Future Farmers of America club earned a first and third place at the Area Leadership Contest at University High in Waco. The first place Race Contest team of Don Posey, David Batten and Billie Gant advances to the state championship in Huntsville. The Quiz team took third behind Rogers and Burleson, after winning district honors in Corsicana. Green Hand conducts second in district and was supported by Ranford Williams and Dale Brown.
Linda Weeks of Mexia High School FFA competes in the district sweetheart contest at Corsicana High School auditorium tonight. Delegates from area chapters vote with Mexia chapter officers Nelson Robison and Jack Beene among participants. Weeks is daughter of Mr and Mrs W B Weeks of 90 East Blunt Street.
